Bristol OTC Prize 2013
This year's prize is awarded to Johanna Szczyglowska (a.k.a. Scrabble) for her outstanding contribution to charity fundraising over the course of the year. Here is a little from Johanna on her activities and what she intends to do with the prize.
"Having personally fund raised for Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal before joining Bristol OTC I was extremely happy that the members of Minden Company chose to continue their support for the charity again. I used my position as Minden's Company Under Officer to organise fundraising events throughout the year. Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal is a truly deserving charity which helps sick children and their families all over the South West of England and South Wales.
Our fundraising activities kicked off with nine members of BUOTC running the 10km Grim Challange mud run. The Autumn Dinner the night before meant that there were a few sore heads at the start of the race but the ice-covered puddles soon sorted that out. In November we held a pub quiz with the prizes kindly donated by the staff at BUOTC. There was also the annual 10km Christmas Canter around the Downs.
Throughout the year there were sweets for sale at the bar which by themselves raised over £300 for Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal.
I'm a firm believer that fundraising should be fun and everyone should get something from donating money. The annual Minden Company dinner also acted as a charity ball with a proportion of the ticket sales going to charity. Prizes which were kindly donated by local businesses were raffled off.
Raising money for Wallace and Gromit's Grand Appeal this year was highly enjoyable and rewarding and the charitable and enthusiastic nature of the members of BUOTC only served to make it more so."
Johanna has generously donated her prize money St Peter's Hospice, the charity that Minden Company are supporting this year.
